Vivian Buchanan
Vivian is a third-year doctoral student in Information Science. Originally from New Orleans, Vivian received a bachelor's degree in Opera Performance and Music History from the New England Conservatory of Music. She then returned to her home state for her master's degree in Musicology, which she received from Louisiana State University in 2018. Her master's thesis drew parallels between Claude Debussy's piano playing and masters of the Baroque French harpsichord tradition.
Vivian has carried her love of Classical music into her studies in Information Science, where she focuses on issues of music organization and retrieval in academic libraries. Her research is concerned with the usability of library information systems, particularly web-scale discovery tools. Other interests include cultural heritage informatics, special collections, and digital humanities.
